John Campbell (1708–1775)

Campbell, John. A British historical writer; born in Edinburgh, March 8, 1708; died on Dec. 28, 1775. His writings before 1742 were published anonymously. From 1755 to the close of his life, he was agent of the British government for the province of Georgia. His works are in part: ‘Concise History of Spanish-America’ (1741); ‘Lives of the English Admirals’ (1744); ‘A Survey of the Present State of Europe’ (1750); and ‘Trade of Great Britain to America’ (1772).
