José Arnaldo Marquez (1825?–1881)

Marquez, José Arnaldo (mär’keth). The best of modern Peruvian—especially lyric—poets; born about 1825; died on Jan. 15, 1881. He published: ‘Lost Notes’ (1862), ‘Flor de Abel,’ etc.; and a book of travels in the United States. He was editor of several journals. He lost his life in the defense of Lima against the Chilians.
