Joseph Roumanille (1818–1891)
Roumanille, Joseph (rö-män-āl’). A French (Provençal) poet; born at Saint Remy (Bouches-du-Rhône), Aug. 8, 1818; died at Avignon, May 24, 1891. He was one of the most popular authors of the Society of Félibres. Apart from his improvisations, for which he was noted, he produced: ‘Li Margarideto’ (1847); ‘Le Campano Mountado’ (1857); ‘Lis Oubreto’ (1859); ‘Li Conte Provençaueli Cascareleto’ (1884); and others.
