Juan Manuel, Infant of Castile (12821347)
Juan Manuel, Don (Hö-än’), Infant of Castile. A Spanish romancer and poet; born in Escalona, 1282; died in 1347. He was a gallant knight, who lived for love and fought against the Moors, varying these activities by the gratification of his literary tastes. His best work, ‘Count Lucanor,’ is a collection of anecdotes, apologues, and apostrophes to the gods of love and war, all set down in flowery style, the Oriental influence being readily discernible.
