Jules Barthélemy-Saint-Hilaire (1805–1895)
Barthélemy-Saint-Hilaire, Jules (bär-tāl-mē’ sa
-tē-lār’). A French scholar and man of letters; born in Paris, Aug. 19, 1805; died there, Nov. 25, 1895. He wrote for leading periodicals, and his best-known work is probably the ‘Commentary on Aristotle’ (1837–70). He also published: ‘The Vedas’ (1854); ‘Mahomet and the Koran’ (1865); and ‘Philosophy in Relation to Science and Religion’ (1889).
