Karl Ziegler (1812–1877)

Ziegler, Karl (tsēG‘lãr). An Austrian poet; born at St. Martin in Upper Austria, 1812; died at Vienna, 1877. He studied philosophy at the Vienna University, but takes high rank among modern Austrian lyrical poets, both as to substance and form. He published: ‘Poems’ (1843); ‘Heaven and Earth,’ poems (1856); ‘Odes’ (1866); and a collection of hymns, rhapsodies, etc., many of them full of beauty and power.
