Leopold Sacher-Masoch (1835–1895)
Sacher-Masoch Leopold Ritter von (säċh’er-mäs’ōch). An Austrian novelist; born at Lemburg, Jan. 27, 1835; died at Lindheim in Hesse, May 6, 1895. His very numerous stories show great powers of realistic description; among them are: ‘Love’ (1870); ‘False Hermelin,’ stories of theatrical life (1873); ‘Love Stories from Divers Centuries’ (1874); ‘The Ideals of our Time’ (1876); ‘Property’ (1877); ‘The New Job’ (1878); ‘The Serpent in Paradise’ (1890); ‘The Solitaries’ (1891); ‘Merry Tales from the East’ (1893); ‘The Filled and the Hungry’ (1894). His wife, Aurora von Rümelin, born at Gratz, 1846, wrote: ‘Romance of a Virtuous Woman’ (1873); ‘The True Hermelin’ (1879); ‘Ladies in Furs’ (1881).
