Louis Salomon Hymans (1829–1884)

Hymans, Louis Salomon (ē-mäs’). A Belgian historian, journalist, novelist, and poet; born in Rotterdam, 1829; died at Brussels, 1884. He removed to Belgium in boyhood and rose rapidly to distinction as a Liberal journalist. He edited the Belgian Star and the Parliamentary Echo for some years, and was elected to Parliament in 1859. He wrote: ‘History of the Marquisate of Anvers,’ ‘Popular History of Belgium,’ and ‘Political and Parliamentary History of Belgium’; two popular novels, ‘André Bailly’ and ‘The Buvard Family’; and some pleasing poems.
