Lucy Stone (1818–1893)
Stone, Lucy (Blackwell). An American reformer and prominent advocate of women’s rights; born in West Brookfield, MA, Aug. 13, 1818; died at Boston, Oct. 18, 1893. She graduated at Oberlin College, 1847. In 1855 she married Dr. Henry B. Blackwell, retaining her own name. She published a protest, ‘Taxation without Representation.’ In 1869 she helped organize the American Woman’s Suffrage Association; became connected with the Woman’s Journal in 1872, and was editor after 1888.
