Madame Roland (1754–1793)
Roland, Madame (Manon Jeanne Phlipon). A French author and republican politician; born in Paris, March 17, 1754; executed Nov. 8, 1793. She imbibed republican ideas from Rousseau and her classical readings, and her salon was the meeting-place of the Girondist party. She is well known for her ‘Memoirs,’ written in prison, and edited by Dauban (1864); as were her ‘Letters’ (1869).
