Marie Catherine, Madame d’Aulnoy (1650/51–1705)
Aulnoy, Marie Catherine, Comtesse d’ (ōl-nwä’). A French writer; born about 1650; died in Paris, 1705. She is now remembered chiefly by her ‘Fairy Tales’ (1698), in which she successfully imitated Perrault. Of her novels only ‘Hippolyte, Count of Douglas’ (1690) deserves mention. She also wrote ‘Memoirs of the Court of Spain’ (1690).
