Marquis de Vauvenargues (17151747)
Vauvenargues, Luc de Clapier, Marquis de (v!v-närg’). A French moralist; born at Aix, Aug. 6, 1715; died on March 9, 1747. He wrote a valuable ‘Introduction to a Knowledge of the Human Mind’ (1746), to which are appended ‘Reflections’ and ‘Maxims.’ His moral philosophy inclines toward the Stoic school.
