Maximilien de Béthune, Duke of Sully (1559–1641)
Sully, Maximilien de Béthune, Duke of (sü-lē’); born at Rosny (Seine-et-Oise), Dec. 13, 1559; died at Villebon, Dec. 22, 1641. He was the close friend, supporter, and finance minister of Henry of Navarre. His ‘Memoirs’ (1634), followed by two posthumous volumes (1662), are very celebrated.
