Wilde, Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills. An Irish poet and author; born in Dublin, Oct. 16, 1854; died in Paris, Nov. 30, 1900. He wrote: ‘Poems’ (1880); ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray,’ a novel; ‘The Happy Prince, and Other Tales’ (1888); ‘Guido Ferranti’ (1890), and ‘The Duchess of Padua,’ tragedies; ‘Intentions,’ essays (1891); ‘Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime, and Other Stories’ (1891); ‘Lady Windermere’s Fan’ (1892); ‘A Woman of No Importance’ (1893); ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ (1895); and ‘De Profundis’ (1905).
