Pierre Nicole (1625–1695)
Nicole, Pierre (nē-kōl’). A French theological and philosophical writer; born at Chartres, 1625; died in 1695. He is best known for his ‘Moral Essays and Theological Instructions’ (25 vols., 1671), a collection of treatises, of which the one entitled ‘On the Means of Preserving Peace’ is very famous. He also wrote ‘Treatise on Human Faith’ (1664), and ‘The Imaginative and the Visionary’ (1667).
