Rafael María de Mendive (18211886)
Mendive, Rafael María de (mān-dē’vā). A Cuban poet; born in Havana, 1821; died in 1886. His first collection of poems (1847), entitled ‘Passion-Flowers,’ is widely popular. Banished in 1869, he lived alternately in New York and Nassau, writing legends and stories in verse.
