Richard Carew (15551620)
Carew, Richard. An English poet and antiquarian scholar; born in Cornwall, July 17, 1555; died on Nov. 6, 1620. His chief work is the ‘Survey of Cornwall’ (1602). He translated the first five cantos of Tasso’s ‘Jerusalem Delivered’ (1594), and wrote ‘An Epistle Concerning the Excellences of the English Tongue’ (1605).
