Robert Treat Paine, Jr. (1773–1811)
Paine, Robert Treat, Jr. An American poet; born in Taunton, MA, Dec. 9, 1773; died in Boston, Nov. 13, 1811. During the greater part of his erratic career, he was engaged in various literary pursuits, although he was at one time in business, and later practiced law for a brief period. He will be best remembered as the author of two songs, ‘Rise, Columbia,’ and ‘Adams and Liberty.’ Among his poems are: ‘The Invention of Letters’ (1795), and ‘The Ruling Passion’ (1797).
