Sarah Flower Adams (18051848)
Adams, Sarah Flower. An English hymn-writer; born at Great Harlow, Essex, Feb. 22, 1805; died in Aug. 1848. In 1834 she was married to William Bridges Adams, a noted inventor. She was the author of ‘Vivia Perpetua,’ a dramatic poem (London, 1841); and of many lyrics and hymns, the most popular of which is ‘Nearer, My God, to Thee’ (1860).
