Seweryn Goszczyński (1801–1876)
Goszczyński, Seweryn (gōsh-chin’skē). A Polish poet; born 1801, in Ilinze in the Ukraine; died in Lemberg, Feb. 25, 1876. The influence of Byron is unmistakable in his youthful ‘Castle of Kanioff.’ The struggle for Polish independence in 1830 inspired some of his best verse. ‘The Terrible Huntsman,’ ‘The Three Chords,’ and ‘Dziela’ are powerful poems.
