Simon Dach (16051659)
Dach, Simon (däċh). A German lyrist (1605–59); born at Memel. His numerous hymns and songs are found in various collections, his hymns especially in the ‘Spiritual Arias’ of Heinrich Albert. His ‘Annie of Tharau,’ a Low-German lay for the wedding of his friend Parson Portatius with Anna Neander, became a popular favorite; his ‘Praise of Friendship’ seems to belong to a better age; and his spiritual songs, ‘In Thy Control, O Lord,’ ‘Be Comforted my Soul,’ etc., are hardly surpassed by any compositions of his day.
