Søren Kierkegaard (18131855)
Kierkegaard, Søren Aaby (kyer’ke-gōr). A Danish religious writer; born at Copenhagen, May 5, 1813; died there, Nov. 11, 1855. He placed the philosophical basis of Christianity in personal faith; and decried “official” Christianity, making religion a personal matter between each soul and the Supreme Being. His principal work was ‘Enten—Eller’ (Either—Or: 4th ed. 1878).
