Thomas De Quincey (1785–1859)
De Quincey, Thomas. A celebrated English author; born in Manchester, Aug. 15, 1785; died on Dec. 8, 1859. He was a very prolific writer; but his works are mostly occasional essays, and papers on historical, literary, and miscellaneous topics. Besides collections of these, his published works include: ‘Confessions of an English Opium Eater’ (1821); ‘Letters to a Young Man whose Education has been Neglected’ (1823); ‘Logic of Political Economy’ (1844); ‘Klosterheim’ (1839); etc. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
