Thomas Hamilton (1789–1842)
Hamilton, Thomas. A Scottish novelist; born in 1789; died at Pisa, Italy, Dec. 7, 1842. Retiring from the army about 1818, he soon became known as contributor to Blackwood’s. His novel, ‘Cyril Thornton,’ published in 1827, reached several editions. ‘Annals of the Peninsular Campaign’ came out in 1829; ‘Men and Manners in America’ in 1833.
