Thucydides (c. 460c. 395 B.C.)
Thucydides (thö-sid’ė-dēz). A Greek historian. The year of his birth is uncertain; not much earlier than 460 nor later than 454 B.C. The time and manner of his death are likewise uncertain. It is probable that he did not long survive the end of the fifth century. His ‘History,’ which covers twenty-one years of the Peloponnesian War, has come down to us in eight books. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
