Ventura Ruiz Aguilera (1820–1881)
Aguilera, Ventura Ruiz (ä-gē-lā’rä). A Spanish poet; born in Salamanca, Nov. 2, 1820; died in Madrid, July 1, 1881. Studied but did not practice medicine; afterwards went to Madrid, where he pursued journalism, and later on became director of the archæological museum. Among his works are: ‘National Echoes,’ ‘Elegies’ (1862) (considered masterpieces and translated into nearly all European languages); ‘The Book of the Fatherland’ (1869); ‘Christmas Legend’ (1872); Complete Works (Madrid, 1873).
