Vittorio Imbriani (1840–1886)
Imbriani, Vittorio (ēm-brē-än’ē). An Italian poet and historian of literature; born in Naples, Oct. 27, 1840; died there, Jan. 1, 1886. His life was involved in political turmoil, but he made himself known as a graceful poet with ‘Popular Songs of the Southern Provinces,’ and as an ode-writer of strength and dignity in an ‘Address to Italy’s Queen.’ In prose he ranks high, as ‘Usurped Reputations,’ a book of literary essays, demonstrates. His ‘Philological Studies in Dante’ is a valuable contribution.
