Palgrave, William Gifford. An English traveler, son of Sir Francis; born in London, Jan. 24, 1826; died at Montevideo, Sept. 30, 1888. His chief writings are: ‘Narrative of a Year’s Journey through Central and Eastern Arabia’ (2 vols., 1862–63); ‘Essays on Eastern Questions’ (1872); ‘Herrmann Agha,’ a story (1872); ‘Dutch Guiana’ (1876); ‘Ulysses: Scenes and Studies in Many Lands’ (1887); a posthumous poem, ‘A Vision of Life: Semblance and Reality’ (1891).
