William Henry Giles Kingston (1814–1880)

Kingston, William Henry Giles. An English novelist; born in London, Feb. 28, 1814; died near there, Aug. 5, 1880. He wrote almost though not quite exclusively for boys, producing 130 stories in 30 years; mostly of sea voyage and adventure, instructive as well as pleasing, and very popular. ‘Peter the Whaler’ (1851); ‘The Cruise of the Frolic’ (1860); the series beginning with ‘The Three Midshipmen’ (1873); ‘Joviman’ (1877), etc.
