William Wotton (1666–1727)

Wotton, William. An English clergyman and scholar; born at Wrentham, Suffolk, Aug. 13, 1666; died at Buxted, Essex, Feb. 13, 1727. He was prebendary at Salisbury 1705. He wrote ‘Reflections upon Ancient and Modern Learning’ (3d ed. 1795); ‘History of Rome’ (1701), etc.; and edited the ‘Laws of Howel the Good’ (1730), in Welsh and Latin, with glossary.
