Winthrop Mackworth Praed (18021839)
Praed, Winthrop Mackworth (prād). An English poet (1802–39); born in London. He wrote society verse and occasional poetry. Among his best-known pieces are: ‘The Red Fisherman’; ‘Every-Day Characters’; ‘Private Theatricals’; ‘School and Schoolfellows’; ‘A Letter of Advice’; ‘Our Ball’; ‘My Partner’; ‘My Little Cousins’; etc. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
