Wolfgang Adolf Gerle (1783–1846)
Gerle, Wolfgang Adolf (gār’lė). A German story-writer and dramatist; born in Prague, July 9, 1783; died there by his own hand, June 29, 1846. He was a prolific author of works of light fiction, employing at times different pseudonyms, such as “G. Erle,” “Konrad Spät,” “Hilarius Kurzweil,” and others. ‘Corals,’ ‘Schelmufsky’s Strange Adventure,’ and ‘Moonlight Pictures and Shadows,’ are popular. His plays, some written in collaboration with other authors, have been staged with success.
