Message to a Perfidious Soldier

D. H. Lawrence

From “War Films”

IF you meet my young man,

Greet him from me;

Touch him on the shoulder,

And tell him from me

The moon is not any warmer, the sun no colder.

If he understands

You will know by his eyes.

If he only stands

And stares in surprise,

Tell him prayer is stronger than iron, faith makes no demands.
