When Love Is Gone

Louise Jones

I AM as a field of grass

Over which the hot winds pass—

I am bowed.

As an organ left alone—

Organist and songs long gone—

I am dumb.

I am as a goblet dried,

Wine-stained crystal rim and side:

I am drained.

As the ashes dead and gray

When the fire has burned away,

I am cold.
