The Prayer

Skipwith Cannéll

From “Monoliths”

I HAVE cried aloud, but truly,

There are no Gods in the lowlands:

I will go to the high hills

To seek my God.

I yearn for him….

I am eager

As the hawk for the high sun!

For I have cried to Him loudly, and the silence

Was like the cloak of a black dream.

Let them come quickly,

And awake me

With singing, lest I dream no more.
