William H. Simpson

From “In Hopi-land and Other Lands”

A THINNING of lingering leaves on the boughs,

A sudden chill on the sunny side of the house,

And honk of wild geese overhead.

Summer has fled.

Her departure does not sadden me

Beyond all recompense and utterly,

For you are here,

My dear, my dear.
