§ 11. Rugby
The free school founded at Rugby, in 1567, by Laurence Sheriff, “citizen and grocer of London,” remained, for a long time, in like manner, comparatively obscure, being much hampered by the founder’s revocation of a money grant, and deriving, for many years, but a slender revenue from that “Conduit Close,” on the outskirts of London, which afterwards developed into an E1 Dorado.
