From “In Summer”
I
FThe bitter chrysanthemum
Untamed by frost,
Spending gold in bleak weather.
Mine shall be
A lean geranium in a pot
Climbing the cottage pane.
Old leaves yellow and drop off,
New green puts out.
I like it for the pungent scent it gives
When you bruise it.
Though lacking sun it may never afford
A scarlet flower.
